On the recent May Long weekend, Community Care Pastor, Will Wiens announced his resignation from Vernon Alliance Church. As one of our most compassionate, humble, hard-working and faithful team members, Will's vast array of skills and giftings have allowed him to be a part of many areas of VAC over the last 25 years. He has served our church family and community in several roles, most recently as our Community Care Pastor; a position which perfectly suited his deep call to ministry and community outreach.

Will served on the VAC Board of Elders in his early 30s, and was also part of our facilities team. Using his construction background to care for the grounds and building, Will and his facility volunteers made VAC a more useful and beautiful space. As he shifted into a Pastoral role, Will has facilitated Baptism classes, marriage courses, membership and spiritual development programs, and has brought brilliant teaching to our weekend services. Will has also recently been heavily involved in the care and overseeing of our Compassion Ministry, including Common Threads.

He has been present for countless milestones in the lives of our community; from the joy of baptisms, weddings, and child dedications, to the sorrow and grief of bedsides and funerals. He was (and is) also a vital member of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Chaplaincy, visiting those who are sick or in need of spiritual care. We know that hundreds have felt comforted and cared for by Will’s ministry; a ministry that is measured in decades, not just years. He has helped us to know and love Jesus better through his example and teaching, and has made many a moment brighter with just a few claps of his hands.

We are deeply grateful for Will’s compassion, teaching, wisdom and servant-heart. As a church, we acknowledge the humble, relational, and sacrificial ways in which the Wiens’ have invested in us. Thank-you, Will and Betti, you are greatly loved and will be truly missed.
