Pastoral Search Team Mandate – Vernon Alliance Church

 

  1. Purpose: The responsibility of the Search Committee is to facilitate and develop an effective Candidate Search for a future Lead Pastor for VAC. The Search Committee will develop and implement an interviewing process concluding with a presentation of a short list to the Board of Elders (BOE) for the final interviewing and candidating steps.

 

  1. Composition:

Nominations of a member in good standing may be made by two members in good standing using the form below and submitted to the BOE (via an elder, the Welcome Desk or church office) for consideration by Sunday, March 29, 1:00 pm. The elders will draw from these nominees, the elders board itself and if necessary, the wider congregation in appointing a Search Team that is broadly representative of the church. The appointment is for up to a one year term, with the possibility of extension if neededThe Transitional Coach will be an ex-officio member and will provide initial training and then guidance for the Search team to ensure due process is followed.

 

III. Responsibilities

To fully comply with CMA District policy for the Search processTo conduct its work in a prayerful, Spirit-led mannerEvaluate candidates based on the Pastoral Profile and Job DescriptionEnsure a high level of confidentiality and compliance with the Privacy ActTo be available for further work should the Board not accept any candidates on the short listFully document its activities for reference present and future

 

  1. Accountability and Limitations

The Committee is fully accountable to the BOE The Committee shall report consistently and with full disclosure to the BoardThe Committee has no executive authority other than what is granted by the BoardThe Committee shall not disclose any information to the church staff or congregation without permission of the BOE

 

  1. Search Team Members – Giftedness and skills

Spiritual gifts – discernment, helps, administration, servanthoodA high commitment to confidentiality and discretion – not careless in conversations or in handling sensitive documentsAbility to evaluate prospective candidates through the vetting of resumes and interviews with the prospective candidates and appropriate referencesGood researching skills, ability to follow search protocols carefullyAbove average listening skillsAbility to work in partnerships with others and to work to deadlinesA commitment to a consensus model of decision making at the Search Team levelHas confidence in the leadership of the Board of Elders to complete the Search

 

Nominations of a member in good standing may be made by two other members in good standing using the form below and submitted to the BOE for consideration by Sunday, March 29, 1:00 pm.

 

Note: It is up to the nominators to ask the potential nominee if they will let their name stand.
