March 16 Update
Hey there VAC,
First, I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who joined us online this past weekend. I also want to thank the teams that worked tirelessly to find solutions so that we could provide an opportunity for all of us to remain connected.
As of today, our BC provincial authorities have put a ban on gathering of 50 or over, our Federal government has also put several other initiatives in place, one of which is a strong recommendation from our Prime Minister to limit personal contact by staying home.
To that end, church, I am suspending all mid-week meetings here at VAC for the foreseeable future.
Here is what that means:
Our Ministry College classes – are postponed and will be re-scheduled.
Senior Adults – will also be postponed, we are looking at ways that we can support you moving forward. More information to come
Common Threads – our team is looking to continue supporting our community through preparing bags with some basic food supplies to be handed out during our regular hours.
Home Groups – while the official ban is directed toward gatherings of 50 or more people, we are asking each group to be measured in their response. We strongly encourage you to stay connected in a virtual way, or, if gathering publicly, please ensure that you create space for adequate social distancing and proper hygiene.
If you are unsure about your meeting, please contact your ministry leader for additional information.
Church, these are crazy days and I personally find them challenging to navigate. My medical training, as a Medical Lab Technologist understands the need for these measures but my pastor heart is saddened as we continue to increase our distance but….
I am encouraged because these are the times we see the church operating as a light and beacon of hope. AND…we are hearing from you, how you want to help, how you are praying and words of encouragement. It is so good to see our church responding without fear but with purpose and intention.
In all this though, Church you need to know, we are working diligently, we are standing with you and we are here. Pray for one another, check in on one another and continue to check back to our social media feeds and our livestream platform.
We will continue to update you as we move along but for now Church,
May the Lord bless you, may the Lord keep you, may his face shine upon you and give you rest.
Bye for now.
As you already know, our staff and leadership have taken steps to change how we meet together on weekends. This morning, we called our core leadership team together to discuss how we can continue to remain connected as a church, while honouring and respecting the decisions mandated by the BC Provincial Government in relation to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Church is going to look a little different this weekend and into the foreseeable future, as it just wouldn't be possible for us to limit any of our services to only 250 people.
So, the VAC campus will be closed for services this weekend. While we are not meeting at the VAC building, we are still going to meet together online. We may not be able to come together in person, but we can still be together in this way: We will be providing an online worship experience on Saturday at 6:30pm, and on Sunday at 10:00am. These will be full services with worship, teaching, prayer, family ministry resources and the opportunity to engage online with our pastoral team.
The health, safety, and well-being of our entire VAC church family is of great importance to us. And we have not undertaken this decision lightly. We believe that as a church, we have an opportunity to serve, care and engage in our community outside of our physical walls.
In 2 Timothy 1:7 we are told that God has not given us a spirit of fear. So in that, we want to invite you to gather and engage with our online worship experiences in community, as you are able.
This is both information, and a call. Let’s be the church. We are called to love our neighbours – we are loving our neighbours by protecting our neighbours. We are not being fearful; we are being responsible. This is what love requires of us in this season. (A great call from Andy Stanley)
Our regular office hours and mid-week events will remain the same, at this time. If you need us, we are here! Please contact our office via phone or email.
VAC, this is an interesting season. We will stay connected with you through regular updates and through different forms of communication for all aspects of our ministry.
Bless you, and thank you.
