Most of what we do in worldly life is geared toward staying dry, looking good, not going under. But in baptism, in lakes and rain and tanks and fonts, you agree to do something that’s a little sloppy because at the same time it is also holy, and absurd. It’s about surrender, giving in to all those things we can’t control; it’s a willingness to let go of balance and decorum and get drenched.
(Ann Lamott)
At VAC we believe that baptism is an important first step in our journey of faith in Jesus Christ. People consider baptism at different stages of their faith journey. Some wait for years before they decide to take that step. Others come to faith in Christ and feel that this is something they need to do immediately. The important thing to consider is that baptism plays an integral part in our spiritual journey.
WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?
A number of times during the calendar year we host a Baptism Class to help individuals, considering baptism, to make an informed decision. We explore some of the different traditions of baptism. We look at what God’s Word teaches regarding the reasons for and the meaning of baptism. We also take the time to answer the important questions that people bring to the discussion.
HOW DO I GET INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLASSES?
There are a number of ways that you can receive information about baptism. There is a tear off section of our weekend news letter called the Connection Card. Just fill out the appropriate information and remember to tick off the “I would like to be baptized” section. Put it in the offering bag or hand it in at the office. Someone will get back to you regarding your inquiry. Or you can call the church office and someone can help you with that information. You can also email Bonnie, bonnie@vernonalliance.org and she will help you with the information you need.
Thank you for letting us partner with you in this important faith step.
